Basketball (Grades 4-8)
with Preston Gordon

Do you want to learn more about the details of today’s basketball game? If so, then come join us as we dribble into the details of basketball through film sessions and on the court breakdown drills. We will focus on combining basic fundamentals with new microskills on the court and in the classroom. We plan to attend a Randolph-Macon College and Longwood University basketball facilities to watch workouts and/or participate in a Q & A with individuals associated with the programs. University of Richmond is another potential program we could visit. Take your game to another level and become a true student of the game.

** Although this course is open to elementary students, it will take place at the Secondary Complex during secondary hours (9 am-3:30 pm).
College Tours (Grades: 9-12)

Are you interested in spending the week touring 6 Virginia college options? You'll have the opportunity to see the campuses, eat in their dining halls, learn about their programs, and more! Join the GHS school counseling department to tour (tentative list) Randolph-Macon College, Virginia Commonwealth University, Reynolds Community College, Virginia State University, Bridgewater College, and Old Dominion University.
Gamers Unite! (Grades 9-12)

Students will compete in video game tournaments to see who is the Gaming Champ! Each champion of the tournament will help design their own champion poster that will be printed for them to take home. All contestants will be able to create other posters of a game they like. More details to come!
Just-in-Time SAT Prep (Grades 9-12)
with Emily Holloway-Costa

This course will provide Goochland High School students with valuable information and actionable strategies for both the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing components and the Math component of the SAT. We will take apart practice questions, review commonly covered material and language, and work to help students succeed in their performance in all areas of the SAT. Freshmen and sophomores can find a great place to begin their studying and preparation for the test by gaining a baseline sense of their potential performance, and juniors and seniors can polish their skills to gain a more refined sense of where to focus and learn how to add points to their scores.

Outdoor Adventure Essentials (Grades 9-12)
with Kevin Williams

Embark on an exhilarating weeklong journey that will immerse you in the thrilling world of outdoor adventure. This comprehensive course, spanning from Monday to Friday, will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed for a successful backpacking expedition. Whether you're a novice or an experienced outdoor enthusiast, this course will provide you with the confidence and expertise to tackle the wilderness with ease. The gear list will be provided prior to the beginning of the intercession week. Participation numbers for this course are limited due to federal regulations concerning wilderness areas.
Pending School Board approval, this course will take students on a 2 night overnight camping field trip.
Join us for an unforgettable week of exploration, self-discovery, and adventure. By the end of this course, you will have the confidence to plan and execute your own backpacking expeditions, equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in the wilderness. Dare to step outside your comfort zone and discover the beauty and excitement of the natural world in this Outdoor Adventure Essentials course!

Photography & Videography (Grades 9-12)
with Brent Rose
Students will learn the difference between photography and videography. They will take pictures and video with a wide variety of equipment such as zipline camera, drone, canon digital camera, etc. We will also be attempting to use some special effects while taking pictures to create what looks like a photoshopped image.
The Fundamentals of Golf (Grades 6-8)
with Michael Klemiuk

Have you ever wanted to play golf but just didn’t know where or how to start? Join Coach Klemiuk as he teaches the fundamentals of golf, including the history, rules and skills needed to play this amazing sport!
* A field trip is anticipated for this course. More details will be communicated as the sessions approach.
The Great Escape (Grades 6-8)
with Sarah Smith

Do you like solving cryptic puzzles, finding hidden clues, accomplishing different tasks, and working as a team? Come and challenge your mind to think outside the box as your problem solving skills are tested in new ways. You will work together to create your own escape room using your new critical thinking skills and knowledge. Will you escape or be stuck with us??
* This is a repeated session from the Summer, but past attendees are welcome to come again. Puzzles will be changed for past participants.
** We are planning on two field trips to two different escape rooms during the week.
